When the summer or winter months approach and you find yourself in front of the heater or fan dreaming about the proper temperature in your entire home it may be time to think about a new unit. Typically we will try to do whatever it takes to keep your system running so you and your family are comfortable. However, when the cost for servicing is becoming too high it may be time to be thinking about taking the plunge.
So what type of unit will you need and what does it cost?
We are always available to assist with providing advice, giving you options that are available to consider. We will only advise you to replace your unit when there is absolutely no other choice, or the cost to fix becomes a losing proposition. With normal use and properly maintained most units should last 10+ years, although those living at the beach may not be as fortunate to get that length of life from their systems.
Our options include split systems (ductless or ducted) or package units. We can also help you with repair and/or replacement of your ductwork, or just modifying it to improve airflow.
The cost of a central system is determined by the size of the area that needs to be cooled. Air conditioning units are measured in tons or BTUs (British thermal units) which is the amount of heat that can be removed from a home in one hour. Note that bigger is not always better. If the system is too large it will cycle on and off wasting energy and emitting a loud, disruptive sound, and most importantly, will not be able to remove the humidity. A system that is too small will run constantly nor cool your house efficiently. So it is a good idea to consult with a professional.
We will diagnose problems and repair your heating and/or air conditioning system. Our promise to you is to provide you with advice whenever there are options available to consider. (learn more about our repair and maintenance service...)
